Fact: Homophobes Get Turned On By Gay Porn

Especially during this election season, homophobes seem to be coming out of the woodwork. The queer community, as cute as we are, makes them anxious and fearful and causes them to try and squash our spirit. Fun, strange fact, homophobes get turned on by watching gay porn. Hmmm, you don't say? Sigmund Freud famously noted that people have the most hateful attitudes towards things they are secretly attracted to or crave, but think that they shouldn't. This is why we aren't surprised when we find homophobic politicians exposed with gay secrets.

There is a published medical study that researched a group of heterosexual-identifying men. Based on questions regarding their comfort level around gay men, they were split into two groups - those who were homophobic and those who were not. Both groups had their penises attached to a device that recorded levels of arousal and then were made to watch three short videos. One video had lesbian sex, one had straight sex, and one had gay sex. In both groups, men were aroused by both the lesbian and straight sex videos. Surprise, surprise! The homophobes were the only group that registered arousal from watching the gay sex vids. So, in summation, homophobes who had the most anti-gay attitudes were the ones most aroused by gay porn. Gurrrllll!

Are these homophobes insecure about their own sexuality? Their bodies don't lie. Do they secretly have gay fantasies but can't act on them because of their fear of being gay, so they turn that fear into anger towards a community they feel threatened by? This is not to say that all men who are homophobes are closeted about their gay feelings, but this study did find that those without anti-gay attitudes were not aroused or bothered by the gay sex vids.

Another published study recorded aggression towards homosexual themes. College-aged men were given a questionnaire to measure their placement on the Index of Homophobia. Again, they were split into two groups, those who were classified as homophobes, and those who were not. The men were teamed up against fictitious opponents and were given the ability to give these opponents levels of shocks to measure aggression. Before they competed against their opponent, they were shown a homoerotic video. The homophobes reported significantly more anxiety and hostility after watching the videos. Also, they recorded a higher aggression level when being put against a homosexual opponent. The non-homophobic group did not record any high-level aggression between homo and heterosexual opponents.

What's your take on all of this?
