Jake Shears Launches Queer the Music Podcast

We've had a crush on Jake Shears ever since he hit the scene with the pop-rock group Scissor Sisters. With hits like "Let's Have a Kiki" and "Filthy/Gorgeous" they hit the music biz in a big way. His cute face, devilish grin, and the way he danced and sweated on stage, we fell in instant love. He is a definite showman with a long list of accomplishments outside of Scissor Sisters, and now he's launched his new podcast, Queer the Music.

Queer the Music celebrates the anthems that have dominated dancefloors and helped shift politics, perception, and popular culture. On this podcast, Jake talks to trailblazing queer artists and allies about the stories behind one game-changing song each week. He's launched the podcast with two full episodes to start, chatting with trailblazing diva Sylvester James and Rebecca Lucy Taylor (aka Self Esteem). Given his big Rolodex of celebrity and LGBTQ pioneers, we can't wait to see who else comes on his show.

Jake has been an activist for the LGBTQ community, being a part of Dan Savage's It Gets Better Project. Jake's own coming out at age 15 did not go well, due to the reaction of his parents. Jake has gone on record saying that he believes that celebrities have a responsibility to come out. He has also been vocal about celebrating sexuality, and not being ashamed of sex as part of who we are.

Jake has stated that he left Scissor Sisters because they had reached a peak and he wanted to disband while they were ahead. They were together for ten years. After leaving Scissor Sister, Jake Shears pursued a solo career and released his debut solo studio album, Jake Shears, in 2018, and his second album Last Man Dancing last year. In addition to his solo career, Shears has collaborated with several artists, toured with Kylie Minogue, released his autobiography Boys Keep Swinging, appeared on The Masked Singer, and made his Broadway debut in Kinky Boots. He's been a busy boy!

He currently is playing the iconic Emcee role in Cabaret at the Kit Kat Club in London. Jake received a five-year visa to live in the United Kingdom. So if you want to see him on Grindr, you'll have to take a trip.
