Met Gala 2023: Best and Worst Dressed

POP CULTURE

Fleshbot Gay Pop Culture News.

The first Monday in May just passed! And with that came the 2023 Met Gala. It's referred to as the biggest night in fashion, with dozens of the wealthiest people competing to see who can look the craziest and get the most attention. So of course, I'm here to recap the best and worst-dressed Met Gala attendees! This year's theme was in honor of the late Karl Lagerfeld. This was interesting to me because Karl Lagerfeld was a fashion icon. However, he was not without fault. He has come under fire for his comments against plus-sized individuals, as well as his controversial response to the #MeToo movement. All things considered, I do not make the rules, so I am giving you as unbiased of a review as I can. Let's get right to it!

Best Dressed

Doja Cat

Doja is dressed as Karl Lagerfeld’s cat Choupette! This is correct! Let's just start with the makeup! This prosthetic is so good! It's totally seamless and blended. That's so hard to do! Every detail from the gown to the nails, was flawless. This gown fits her so well! It’s custom Oscar De La Renta! Doja really slays every look when she steps out, and this was no exception! I'm obsessed with the way she was meowing when doing interviews. It's so camp!

Anne Hathaway

Anne Hathaway devoured this look! She’s wearing a custom Versace gown. Donatella put her foot in this one! It’s made with tweed as an homage to Karl Lagerfeld's time at Chanel, but it has Versace’s signature gold details with the safety pins.  This is just so cool. I’m obsessed!

Anok Yai

Supermodel Anok Yai is so stunning in this dress by Prabal Gurung! This look was inspired by an '80s Chanel couture show. She looks like a futuristic jellyfish fresh off the runway! I love mixed metals, so the gold parts on top going down to the silver on the skirt are giving me the feels!  I love the paillettes at the bottom. I know those took hours to sew together. This is perfect from head to toe!

Jeremy Pope

Jeremy Pope turned heads in this custom Balmain look, with a 30-foot train featuring a portrait of Karl Lagerfeld. This entire train was made with silk chiffon! I can only imagine the hours and hours of work that went into this! He was accompanied by Olivier Rousteing. They look so cute together! Also, am I the only one wondering how Jeremy Pop got in and out of a car wearing this look?

Ashley Graham

Ashley Graham is serving in this sickening gown by British designer Harris Reed. The dress was inspired by Chanel Haute Couture from the ’80s. I love that she is here, as a plus-sized model, letting these bitches know how it’s done. Honestly, I hate that there even needs to be a distinction between models of different body types. She shut this red carpet down and you could never!

Worst Dressed

Jared Leto

I really wanted to love this! Jared Leto decided to dress up as Karl Lagerfeld’s cat, just like Doja Cat, who did it much better! I like that he revealed this black outfit with a cape underneath. But regardless, all I can think of is how he dressed as a furry. Furries matter! And their culture is not your costume!

Harvey Guillén

I’m not mad, just disappointed. I loved what he wore to the Oscars, but this is basically the same silhouette, just in pink. I also need to address the giant flowers on this outfit. Yes, this is a trend in fashion right now, but I do not think it's cute at all. And I wish he would have gone with a different silhouette! But whoever gave him that pearl necklace, good job!

Olivia Wilde

This outfit was based on a look that Karl Lagerfeld designed in 1983 for Chloé. I don’t like that it’s all white. And I don’t like that the skirt is so plain and shapeless. I also don’t like that Margaret Zhang, the editor of Vogue China, wore the same thing in black, and in my opinion, wore it better! White is just such a tough color, especially if it doesn't fit properly.

Sydney Sweeney

Honestly, this was a tough one. Overall this look is not that bad. It’s the black bow that is throwing me off. Why is it down there!? Get rid of it! Or if you need to have it, make it huge and put it on the shoulder. Or stick it on the back and make it part of the train! It’s just cutting her off in a weird place, and it’s very distracting. It's ruining what is otherwise a really beautiful gown.

Ariana DeBose

What is going on?! This is too casual, and I’m not getting any connection to Karl Lagerfeld here. It’s a look designed by Joseph Altuzarra, whom she went to the Met Gala with. The color doesn’t make sense! It just feels like a look she found and wore because she liked it, even though it doesn't relate to the theme. When I think about Karl Lagerfeld, I don’t think about the color yellow. I think about how he hated fat people.
