I’m your Gay News Guy – this is the news, casual, sassy, unfiltered, and a little tipsy. Ok here’s today’s MOVIE news as I see it!

Musical theatre gays, this news is for you! Andrew Lloyd Webber's Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat is going to be a major motion picture, led by Wicked and In the Heights director Jon M. Chu. Who asked for this? I dunno. BUT, from every production I’ve seen over the last few years, Joseph’s loin cloth has gotten smaller and smaller for each version of “Close Every Door to Me,” so let’s hope.

Daisy Ridley will keep the Star Wars legacy going with Star Wars: New Jedi Order. The story will be a big departure from the Luke Skywalker years, although it is rumored that Luke could return as a Force spirit like Obi-Wan and Yoda did. Please, please, please, can we lay off the awful CGI for this one? Gurllll….

Classic horror fans, rejoice! The Universal Movie Monsters are getting a reboot! Little is known about the project, just expect to see characters like The Mummy, The Invisible Man, Dracula, The Werewolf, and more. What we do know is that Melissa Barrera will reunite with Scream 6’s directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett for the film. These two directors are the new hot shots in town with the success of Scream and Ready or Not. Will this be a classic take on the Monsters, or updated for today’s day and age? We do know these directors have a talent for mixing camp with horror, so let’s hope this reboot honors the Monsters of yesterday. In other Universal Monsters news, a rare, 90-year-old movie poster featuring the characters was recently put up for auction, and is valued at up to $300,000!

In odd horror film news, the popular '90s game Oregon Trail has been turned into Organ Trail…a film about a family traveling through the Oregon Trail in the 1870s who run into some bloodthirsty peeps. For those of us young enough to remember the game, most of us “died” from dysentery. How did that become a horror film? Was someone high when they wrote that script? And yes, I definitely will be watching it.

HBO Max is becoming simply Max. Not only will the newly branded platform feature the usual HBO stuff, but it will also feature content from Food Network, Discovery, and TLC. Yawn. Ok. It will also feature ad-free listening pricing tiers as well as cheaper options. They also announced that the Harry Potter TV series has been greenlit and will center around a more complex, truer to the books reimagining. WHYYYYY???? It will be interesting to see if the TV version takes off. Will a new generation be into it? Has J.K. Rowling’s anti-trans comments totally ruined it for all of us????

Disney, addicted to rebooting their own material till they cough up dust, is making a live-action version of Lilo & Stitch. While at first, I thought this was a bad idea, they just cast hottie Billy Magnussen in the film. Hopefully shirtless for its entirety.

Again, Disney...oy. I've lost track of all the Peter Pan movies out there. And while I love the story and characters, I feel like it's been beaten to death. Disney is releasing Peter Pan and Wendy, another live-action offering of the story. The trailer shows the film to be more diverse with casting. Other than that, looks about the same as everything we've seen. Although Jude Law as Captain Hook looks like he's having fun. But seriously, we can't come up with new stories?

One of my favorite heroes, Indiana Jones is going out with a bang! The final film in the franchise series, Dial of Destiny, will have the longest run time of the series at 2 hours and 22 minutes. Usually, I get antsy and start looking at Grindr after the 1-hour and 30-minute mark, but I'm glad they are doing the story service and letting it play out. I will miss Indy - the humor, the storytelling, the characters - as the films have been such a part of my movie-going lifetime.
