Drag Queen Spotlight: Talia Tucker Talks Tennis, Bachelorettes, and Drag Inspiration

It's a glorious time to be alive! This week's Drag Queen Spotlight is the fiercely talented and gorgeous Talia Tucker L'Whor! Talia is Denver, Colorado's fiercest and quirkiest queen! She always brings elaborate looks with a sexy and campy twist! I love a queen who paints for the back row, and her mug is always STAMPED! How did you get your drag name?

My drag name is Talia Tucker L’Whor, changed from a name that won’t be shared, when I wanted to make my artistry more authentically myself. It’s a modern take on the name Thalia, Greek muse of comedy, as I’m a boundary-pushing artist finding new ways of expression; and Tucker is my boy name for a cute pun and also who I literally am.

How long have you been doing drag?

I’ve been doing drag for 5 years on April 1st 2023.

When is your birthday? How old are you?

My drag birthday April 1st, boy birthday July 21st (Cancer, Leo leaning, so an emotional wreck attention whore). I’m 27 years young.

Relationship status?

Happily taken by the hottest Southern guy you can imagine that makes my heart melt.

What was your first time in drag like?

First time in drag was uncomfortable and sweaty, but absolutely living my fantasy nevertheless.

What made you want to start drag?

My first time in drag was for a fundraiser competition where local artists do your makeup and you compete. It filled a hole I’ve been craving in performance and artistic expression, most people explore artistic sides of their lives and theater and other activities in HS and college, but have it stamped out or so little time for them in adulthood. This granted a great source or fulfillment to create something beyond myself that is uniquely authentic to myself, and to bring joy to others for work is extraordinarily fulfilling.

Who inspires your drag (celebrities, other queens, etc.)?

I’m inspired by Pop Art, fantasy, and characters. I like very graphic looks with references to early inspirations like the Pink Panther, Galaxy Queens, Superheroes. My biggest drag inspiration is Sasha Velour because she does an extraordinary job of implementing creativity to give people experiences unlike they’ve seen before. How to be avant-garde and palatable. In a similar vein, I take fashion inspiration from Doja Cat because she also has a brand of authentically being her freaky fabulous self.

Favorite song/artist to lip sync to?

I love a huge range of lip syncing songs from Doja Cat to Blondie to Abba, I’m most drawn to what songs will create the storyline I’m trying to tell. Doja would be the favorite if I had to choose one.

Have you ever hooked up in drag?

No, but I’ve taken someone home and gotten out of drag to hook up.

What’s your favorite thing about drag?

My favorite thing about drag is the versatility of expression and being in an exciting place to constantly be trying new experiences and styles of artistry.

What are your hobbies outside of drag?

I’m a 5.0 tennis player and compete in leagues/tournaments often.

What’s the craziest thing you’ve witnessed in a dressing room?

My janky ass (and incredible) drag mom using Febreze for perfume.

Biggest pet peeve about working with other drag queens?

People showing up way late and unprepared for the gig; drag artistry is sometimes being a professional partier but not letting the party get the best of you and affect what you came here to do.

Biggest pet peeve about audiences in nightclubs?

Bachelorettes, a messy and fearful gaggle of gals.

Any advice for someone wanting to start drag?

If you want to start drag check your bank account and willingness to tuck/chest wrap for 6+ hours a day with shit glued to your tits, ass, ears and face. It’s sweaty, catty, and you’ll change in a broom closet with an open window for a mirror. But honey you’ll look and feel the motherfucking moment, so if you can take the ugly side of beauty then make that pussy pop.
