What inspired you to write your first book? Tell us about your journey leading up to it.
So, my first book was a spiritual adventure story about a near-death experience of a teenager who then had a reoccurring dream life. Quite different from a sexy, human stud who is captured and sent out into the galaxy to be sexed out to hot aliens to save Earth, haha!
The Adventures of Johnny Starfucker began 20 years ago with a photoshoot project my design partner and I shot. We thought the shoot would make a fantastic sexy comic series of the same name.
Then nothing until Covid happened, and someone gave me the idea to conceive Johnny as a book series. I had the time and desire to leave all the tragedy on our planet and my isolation; I could escape into the stars and into my head to another reality with Johnny and his adventures.
Have you always liked writing & what kind of works did you create before this?
I’ve always yearned to think outside the box and entertain. I am a composer and have written lots of music and a full Broadway-style musical called, Chasing Dreams. I write poetry, lyrics, pitch stories, and some magazine articles, but this project is my first one in Sci-Fi Erotica. And I am super excited for people to read and experience it! The story is entertaining and sexy as fuck!
What drew you to pursue this genre as your first book?
In my first book, The Spirit King, written under the author name of Paul Bradley Sterman, I wrote several scenes where in the dream realm, the main character has sex with a Valkyrian Princess, which turned out very sensual and sexual. I guess I had a knack for writing love/sex scenes, which inspired me to feel comfortable enough to write a full-on erotica story full of camp, hilarity, and excitement.
Tell us about your Chippendales career! How did that play into writing the book?
Well, Chippendales was a life filled with adventures, lol. A model we shot with inspired Johnny's character, your typical Chippendale stud, ready to tackle the universe and save the planet. So, I guess you can say my life as a Chippendale led to this book in a roundabout way. The life of traveling and entertaining an array of people played into the character of Johnny, as he meets many new people from different planets and walks of life... and then has sex with them, not something I can say with my Chippendale career haha!
Do you see yourself in Johnny’s character? What is your personal relationship in creating him?
Well, everyone says that they think of me when they read the story, which is quite flattering! Several friends say I am Johnny, though not Texas-bred or bisexual. Though I play straight from time to time as an entertainer, I am a gay man, and Johnny is straight – with a pretty "open" mind. When I wrote him, I wanted to make him universally endearing. I wanted anyone to be able to relate to this story, gay, straight, bi, and enjoy the characters, and I believe they will. Sexy is sexy, period! And there is something for everyone.
What messages and feelings do you want readers to take away from your book?
I want people to take a journey of the body and mind. I'm proud of the story and the eroticism. There's also an environmental message of saving planet Earth, something I try to reflect in all my writing. Many writers only pay attention to sexy writing when creating erotica. I wanted to treat this like sex. Foreplay is the reader diving into the story and wanting to know what comes next rather than going straight for the climax and reading the sex parts! And the other characters are very entertaining as well. There's action, space adventure, romance, hot sex, and lots of humor.
Do you imagine this as a series?
Definitely! I am already planning the second book, and the next phase is to make it into a TV series, animated series, and hopefully a graphic novel. I am open to production companies and networks for future projects! Looking at you, Netflix?! I have written a full Transmedia proposal for a multimedia platform of projects associated with The Adventures of Johnny Starfucker.
Is there anything you wish you knew before you started writing the book? Would you change anything about the experience?
I wish I were better at the whole Social Media platform of marketing. I have a TikTok and IG account for Johnny, which is loads of fun! Readers can check out all the crazy videos at @johnnystarfucker on TikTok. Still trying out new "outside the box" ideas for his channel, which is a blast, but I am very open to suggestions and collaboration on the Social Media front.
What were some of your influences going into this?
My hunky photoshoot from two decades ago, but encouraged to write it by my publishing coach, Emilee, and Alexander Rodriguez. He loved the concept and story.
Speaking of influences, tell us about each of the influencers you’re working with and why you selected them.
Sadly, I don't work with any, and my crazy mind is enough to influence! I am open to having influencers on this journey with me. Any hot "Johnny" type models hit me up to play him for my TikToks, live appearances, videos, and more!
How did you get through writer’s block?
I usually write at night. My ideas typically come during quiet times when I can genuinely visualize the action and atmosphere in which Johnny, his friends, enemies, all the aliens, and more exist. I am a visual and sensual writer, which is key to this book. It needs to stimulate all the senses at the same time.
What were your methods for winding down after each writing session?
Sleep! Haha, but I must say, writing erotica does encourage me to try out some of the things I've written. Since they say, "write what you know," a lot came from personal experience, at least in general. I have never had sex with an alien!
Do you have any advice for anyone who wants to make the pivot as you have?
I say, just do what inspires and excites you. Do it and see what comes from it. I totally enjoyed the sci-fi erotica genre of writing, and it actually made me a much better writer.
What advice do you have for aspiring writers?
Have no expectations. Just write from the heart and your mind, but pay attention to proper punctuation! But enjoy the experience and share it with others! I was afraid my friends and family would think this was a crazy venture, but everyone loved it! Be expressive and authentic, and remember to have fun!
