Bearvengers: ASSEMBLE! 5 Bears From TV & Movies Who Make Us Roar

Two bears converge in a yellow wood… and I fully plan on traveling both of them. This week is International Bear Convergence (IBC) in Palm Springs, and Cybersocket is proud to be one of the sponsors of this annual event celebrating some of the sexiest men imaginable! Because of this, I figured we should also celebrate some of the great bears we have had as eye candy in TV and movies over the years.

Kicking off our list is everyone’s favorite "mean girl" who’s also "looking," Daniel Franzese. In the iconic film Mean Girls, from Her Majesty, Queen Tina Fey, Franzese played Damian, the high school homo who is “too gay to function.” He later came back with an outstanding performance as Eddie in HBO’s Looking—which if you haven’t seen yet, it is definitely worth the watch (haters be damned!). Outside of his acting work, Franzese is also a big advocate for HIV research. I loves me a bigger man, and Franzese is not only sexy as fuck, but in Looking he showed that he's a bigger man in a number of ways!

When I’m not writing, I also produce commercials for ad agencies, which is why I have an extra special place in my heart for Anthony Anderson on ABC’s `black•ish. Anderson plays an ad exec in the series, and has aged so well it’s understandable to do a double take on him if you haven’t seen him of recent. This sexy bear is 51 years old and looks hotter than he has his entire career. Worth noting is that one of the agencies I have worked for has collaborated with `black•ish and Proctor & Gamble for their groundbreaking/viral campaign “The Talk.”

Next we have America’s favorite everyman dad, Dan Conner on The Conners. Played by the ever-brilliant John Goodman, Dan Conner is almost every dad I knew growing up: works his ass off, doesn’t have time to get to the gym, and loves flannel. Wait…am I Dan Conner? If I’m still looking as handsome at 69 as John Goodman is, then I’ll take that as a big win. Also… heh, heh… 69. Not only does John Goodman still look handsome, but he's also a talent that checks off every box: drama, comedy, physical humor, etc. And lord knows I love a versatile, funny man.

What list of hot burly men would be complete without Christopher Meloni? Starring in such shows as HBO’s Oz, Netflix’s Wet, Hot, American Summer, the movie Fear and Loathing In Las Vegas (where he plays a very effeminate gay hotel clerk), Hulu’s The Handmaid’s Tale (playing a very repressed gay man yielding far too much power), and of course, most notably, as Detective Stabler on both Law & Order: SVU and Law & Order: Organized Crime, both on NBC. Not only is Meloni hot as fuck, but he’s also been an ally to the LGBTQ+ community for far longer than was considered “cool” by mainstream America, even being honored by HRC in 2006 for his allyship. As you'll see below, he also leans in to his gay fanbase even, when it doesn’t involve big press and awards. This imagery will carry me for a good few weeks. Woof.

Finally, we have a non-human bear, but goddamnit he's on this list because I said so: Bob from Bob's Burgers, voiced hilariously from the constantly-working H. Jon Benjamin. Here's why I love Bob: in every other animated sitcom, the dad is the fuckup and the family has to deal with his shit (Simpsons, Family Guy, American Dad, Flintstones, etc.), but in Bob's Burgers, Bob is the rational voice of reason, and the rest of his family is kinda cuckoo. We stan a man who can keep his family unit together, and Bob is also a business owner, <i>and</I> sexually fluid (he comes out to a cute, gay butcher in a Thanksgiving episode)! We love a bi entrepreneur!
