Top 5 Unique Trends of Gay & Straight Porn
Eddie Danger is no stranger to media. He’s appeared on The Howard Stern Show multiple times, been a fixture on Hey Qween!, and has been a pioneer in promoting inclusivity in all of his porn work. He has successfully created a name for himself in straight, gay, trans, bi, and everything in between genres of adult film. He is bound to try anything once or twice and be a total sweetheart about it. If that wasn't enough to fuel those rapid heartbeats, he’s got a beautiful dick and muscled body. Oh, and if THAT wasn’t enough to get your heart pumping, he’s also a published poet and musician. If you’ve ever been in the same room as him, you know that no one is safe from that perfect smile.
Having a strong presence in both straight and gay porn, he stopped by to give us his insight on the Top 5 Unique Trends Specific to Gay/Straight Porn:
1. Bullying Trends
Women are disproportionately bullied and harassed by straight male fans. They’re the worst we’ve got. The Reddit threads tracking the MySpace/Facebook/Private Social Media presence of female porn talent are shocking in their refusal to respect privacy. It’s not worth looking up, it’ll only upset you.
Not to mention the endless criticism and evaluation on cam sites that men don’t seem to get all that much of. The girls get exponentially more trolls than the guys do. That’s a whole other issue.
2. The “Crossover Performer” Gatekeeping.
I’ve been laughed out of several casting calls/agencies based on my promotional material and resume. I am proudly associated with LGBTQIA+ media nightlife. Lesbian cross-over, totally fine. Gay male cross-over, forget about it.
Straight casting and often straight performers can’t seem to get their minds around cross-over performers. The obvious judgments range from the homophobic distrust of health screenings to the flat-out aversion to working with a man who has worked with any person identifying as anything other than cisgender, heterosexual.
3. Men are Divas
The gay adult entertainment industry makes stars overnight. We have a new “It” boy every few years. It’s great! Gay porn talent gets to tour the whole world doing appearances, working with gay clothing companies, carrying on across a whole network of gay star worship.
The guys can be DIVAS. They eventually begin to refer to themselves in the third person as “a brand,” put out a t-shirt line, and threaten to quit the industry every so often.
4. Lots of Straight Guys in Gay Porn
There is sometimes a great deal of posturing that goes down before a gay shoot where male talent makes it clear that he has a girlfriend and that he’s “not into dudes.” Whatever works for them and makes them a great performer, fine, say whatever you need to.
But sometimes the straight guys are so professional that you can get lost in the scene with them and never even discuss sexual orientation. But you can’t demand professionalism out of everybody. Just be grateful if they can maintain an erection or adequately douche.
5. Straight Pays Less, More Freedom
With straight porn, although the payment is drastically lower than the gay scenes, there is a lot more room to innovate. I’ve done a ton of weird, oddball scenes in the straight world because there seems to be more tolerance for goofy antics. I’ve cum on ice cream melting down a girl’s ass and proceeded to feed it to her. I’ve been castrated and fed my own dismembered penis. Just a ton of fuckery.
Insult to injury in terms of payment, flights, and travel arrangements are rarely covered by straight studios for straight male talent unless you’re a big name. At a certain point, it seems like the time investment required to make it to that level of success in that genre of porn just isn’t worth the effort.
Gay studios typically treat their boys to travel accommodations, pay for testing, usually a scene rate over 1k, etc. You know, the way talent deserves to be treated.
