Tab Hunter Has Finally Opened Up About His Affair With Anthony Perkins Decades Ago

We all love when a deep Hollywood secret gets spilled out into the mainstream. Even if we don't want to admit it, the vast majority of us just can't get enough of those super-juicy stories of love, sex, and overall romance between stars no one ever expected. After first making headlines in 2015, the dirty deets of a gay love story between legendary actors Tab Hunter and Anthony Perkins are about to be exposed for all to see. Until then, though, Hunter is spilling a little tea himself.

The steamy relationship between the two stars of yesteryear is being made into a movie titled Tab & Tony, which is being produced by Zachary Quinto and J.J. Abrams. In a recent essay, Tab recalls some of the best moments throughout the entire tryst - starting with the first time he ever laid eyes on Perkins:

"It was a hot day so I swung by the Chateau Marmont for a swim. And that’s when I first saw Tony. He was there with a songwriter friend, and they were all around the pool. He had just been filming Friendly Persuasion with Gary Cooper and Dorothy McGuire. I went for a swim and when I came out my friend Venetia Stevenson said, 'Oh I want you to meet Tony – do you know him?' We hadn’t met, but I already knew that he was a very fine actor. He was at Paramount and I was with Warner Brothers. We just chatted and got on and soon we were starting to see each other."

Since the two had to keep their relationship under wraps and couldn't be seen together in public, Hunter says they had no choice but to be as discreet as possible.

"We couldn’t just go out for dinner together or go see a movie because we were both getting so popular back then," he recalled. "One summer we took a little beach house with his family and friends, it was quite wonderful. But it was always out of the public eye."

After everything the duo went through together, Hunter described Perkins as "as special part of my journey."

“He wanted to be a movie star more than anything,” he wrote. “I wanted that too, but not with the same kind of drive he had. We were such opposites–but then maybe that was the attraction.”
