Actor Lee Pace Says No One Should Care About His Sexuality

CELEBRITY

Lee Pace is one of those actors in Hollywood that is so versatile you may see him in vastly different projects across TV, film, and stage. He starred in the short-lived cult TV classic Pushing Daisies, for which he earned a Golden Globe. He also played a villain in Guardians of the Galaxy (2014), as well as the elf Thranduil in The Hobbit trilogy. Now, he's moved on to see his name in lights! Lee is currently starring in the Broadway revival debut of Angels in America, in which he plays the role of Joe Pitt, previously played by Russell Tovey in London.

This is the second time he's played a gay character in a play, the first was Larry Kramer’s The Normal Heart a few years back. During a recent interview with W Magazine, Lee was asked about his sexuality, mainly due to his likeness and attraction to such characters.

"I've dated men. I've dated women," he explained. He also took a moment to voice his frustration. "I don't know why anyone would care. I'm an actor and I play roles. To be honest, I don't know what to say—I find your question intrusive."

Happy Labor Day.

Lee's focus is more on his role and the world around him.

"Our understanding of what it means to be gay is just so different — culturally different. It’s just so much further down the road. It’s an interesting thing for me to think about in this moment while working on this play."

So if you see Lee Pace on the street, remember these two things: you now have a fair shot at tapping that, and don't ask him about his dating preferences. Good luck.
