Drag Race's Lexi Love Goes Public About HIV

Gurll... don't come for a queen unless they send for you! As we reported yesterday, the government is already making sweeping changes that are affecting the queer community. One of those changes was the deletion of LGBTQ terms and pages from federal websites. Pages related to HIV awareness, education, and resources were also deleted. Well, Lexi Love, currently featured on RuPaul's Drag Race season 17 had a LOT to say. She didn't waste a moment clapping back at what was happening. In clapping back, she also revealed her HIV status. According to the government, she is a triple threat - a drag queen, trans, and has HIV. She unabashedly shared her status to shed light on what was happening.

In Lexi's post, she states, "My health and well being as an entertainer is at risk now. I am personally affected by this stance and will work to use this new platform to not only find resources for myself but those who I am connected to socially and here! I’m so sorry everyone! This is hard and it’s frustrating and it’s insulting. I still will continue to love myself and you should continue to do so as well." Snaps, gurl!

The majority of the Drag Race and queer community supported Lexi and her post with messages of solidarity and support. Woe to the person who questioned why the federal government would be responsible for sharing HIV information. Again, Lexi didn't waste a moment to clap back.

Lexi goes on to share the she used government-funded programs for ten years and in doing so, saved her life. She stated, "My heart is broken for the lack of education surrounding HIV protection in our community." One of her followers commented, "As someone still using the Ryan White program, it's one of the best resources I've ever had access to. Thank you for being so open about this, albeit not under the best circumstances. We appreciate your openness and support Lexi. You're touching so many lives and I hope you know how important you are."

Lexi has always been unapologetic about herself. With more and more restrictions that seem to be on their way toward the queer community, taking such a strong stance takes courage and hopefully stirs up the activism spirit. Lexi has quickly become a stand out from this current season, and it will be fun to see how far her journey on the show will take her. Can you imagine how she would use her platform with a crown win? Yaasssss!!!!
