Queer Trends: What's In, What's Out for 2025
Happy New Queer everyone! As we head into an uncertain year, we are putting together our sassy list of what is in and what's out for 2025. If you want to be on the top of queer trends, there are going to be some changes ahead. Here's our quick list of what's hot, what's not.
Pants
Lol, pants are still mandatory but among queer trends, super skinny jeans or oversized jeans are OUT. Somehow, baggy jeans tried to make a comeback. No, just no. Also, we've been trying to get rid of super skinny jeans since the heteros got involved. Super skinny is just super dorky. Get jeans that fit well, show off your ass and package, and call it a day.
Drag Race
Ohhhh...are we going to lose our gay card by suggesting Drag Race should take a break? This month starts the new season of Drag Race...no, not that one, that one, no not that one, that one. There are so many iterations of Drag Race out there we have lost count and we have no idea what's going on anymore, we just know the show has gotten a bit stale. Has the Drag Race world imploded? Is there such a thing as too much drag? Didn't we fight for this? We go back and forth on this one, but maybe the franchise could use a little revamp and a little rest. Is this on our queer trends "out" list? We are on the fence with this one.
Star Wars
For us gay nerds out there, we were elated when Star Wars finally got a little queer with some representation in Disney+'s Acolyte. Then the show got tons of outrage and then was canceled. Cute. But to be honest, the Star Wars franchise, now under Disney, is just pumping out spinoff shows and movies without any heart or thought to them. It's too much and the creators seem so out of touch with why we love Star Wars in the first place.
Bisexuality
Gurlll...bisexuality is so in. This is just in vogue for queer trends of 2025, this is the way of the future. When we first came out, being bisexual meant you were gay but just taking it slowly. Now, we know that bisexuality is indeed a thing and everyone is coming out as somewhat bisexual or fluid. There has been a flood of celebrities that have come out as bisexual, even if they are currently in a straight relationship and we love that.
Aging Gracefully
It is time to be okay with people getting older and looking older. Aging gracefully is so in on our queer trends list. Now that Botox, Ozempic, and fillers have taken over the planet, we are seeing stranger and stranger faces walking around. Let's not even get started on celebrities like Madonna. People get older and that's that, there's a graceful way to do it. Stop stretching your faces and trying to look like a 20-year-old when you are in your 60s. Hydrate, have plenty of sex, and use some good moisturizer and call it a day.
Out Athletes
We keep you in the loop here of all of the athletes that come out month after month. Slowly but surely we are getting our due representation in the sports industry. This last Olympics hosted the most out athletes ever and the list keeps growing.
Overpriced Drinks
So we have our safe spaces in the nightlife community with gay bar after gay bar. Then we walk in and they want to charge us $14 for a happy hour drink. Girl, money is tight for just about everyone right now and it seems that bar prices just keep climbing and climbing. In turn, bars are getting less and less crowded, and the younger generation is more and more disinterested in going out. After Covid, we've lost many landmark bars and we are hearing of staff being let go because of money. Hey, charge us less for our drinks and we'll come back out.
Sniffies
Of course, we have to add hookup apps to our queer trends list. Every empire has its fall, has Grindr started on the decline? Grindr used to be the number one place to hook up, but now it seems to have become a chat room and actual hookups are less and less likely. Sniffies has been the slow and steady contender for hooking up. It's fast, easy to use, and efficient. Small talk and blank profile pictures are scarce. Log in, get off. It makes things that easy. Not to mention the platform has added a fun blog and fashion line to their brand.
Gender-neutral Fashion
Straight, male celebrities have started embracing gender-neutral fashion and so now it's a thing. We aren't going to complain that we've been doing it for years but now it's cool, okay. But feminine and masculine lines are being blurred with fashion and we love that. There is no right or wrong, sometimes guys wear skirts, lace, and big jewelry. Sometimes girls wear suits. There are no gender rules in fashion anymore.
Reaction Videos
How did reaction videos become a thing? Among queer trends, we hope this goes away. How lazy and egotistical of an influencer do you have to be when you post someone else's work and film yourself reacting to it? Who cares? Don't piggyback off of someone else's work. Unless you are a grade-A comedian, we don't care what comments you have on someone's cooking. We are almost on the verge of adding lip-synch videos to this. Wow, we are so impressed you can mouth the words to something that someone else created. Thrilling.
Gay Baiting
Ok, since Covid just about every guy with muscles has joined OnlyFans or has exploited their looks to become an influencer. We get it and we thrive on drooling over hot guys showing off their butts and bulges. What we are over, though, is the straight guys pandering to their gay audience, sometimes even pretending to be with other guys just to get the clicks and subscriptions. We have plenty of hot gay guys in the world, stop taking our money by pretending to be queer.
Gaudy Jewelry
Wow, you splurged on a watch bigger than your head. Wow, you can put five rings on your fingers and ten bracelets on your wrist. Wow. Yawn. Big, obnoxious jewelry pieces are so out this coming year. Sleek and refined is the way to go. If you insist on dripping with big, noisy accessories, we are assuming you need attention. We also know those aren't real diamonds and that you ordered them off Amazon.
Real Housewives
We have a love/hate relationship with the Real Housewives franchise. Yes, the shows have given us years and years of catty memes, fabulous one-liners, and gossip. But just like Drag Race, has the franchise become stale? The problems of rich people just don't seem interesting to us anymore. And the backstabbing and catty fights just seem overdone. It's hard to believe, but Real Housewives of New York and Beverly Hills have tarnished and are pressing the pause button more and more to watch something else. Thank god for Real Housewives of Salt Lake City and Orange County to keep us interested. We never thought this franchise would be on our out queer trends list. Let's hope it can become interesting again!
Podcasts
We love a good podcast. But the operative word in that sentence was "good." Everyone thinks they should have a podcast, everyone thinks they are so funny with that one friend. The truth is, having a good and successful podcast is hard work and takes talent. Rambling for an hour about bad dates is so out on our queer trends list. Stop blathering and structure your podcast. Say something different and interesting in this vast sea of podcasts. We need more shows like Las Culturistas!
Musicals Based on Movies
Ok, Broadway, we get it, you want butts in seats and the best way to do that is to recreate our favorite movies on stage. Right? Um, no. Very rarely does a musical based on a movie satisfy us. Back to the Future, Mrs. Doubtfire, Devil Wears Prada, Mean Girls (even though we did love the movie musical), Pretty Woman, and more all fell flat. Can we please go back to being original?
Dating
Ok, we've had our hookup phase and most relationships are open nowadays, but what we are bringing back on our queer trends list is a real date. Not a hookup date, a real date where you sit and talk to someone. Dinner? Coffee? Hiking? Whatever, but real dates are back in. Try not putting out on the first date and see what kind of energy happens, you may be surprised.
Having Grace
Having grace is both in and out on our queer trends list. Being gracious to others is not a free gift anymore. We are done playing nice with the other side, especially after the nastiness of this last election. We aren't going to be so forgiving of people and their beliefs and sense of morality that goes against ours. We aren't going to look the other way when others fight against queer rights. We aren't going to stay silent. That being said, what is in is having grace towards yourself. 2024 was a rough year for many, and who knows what we have ahead in 2025. Be more gracious to yourself. Yes, it's ok to skip the gym a few times. Yes, it's ok to stay in and watch TV. Yes, it's ok to say no to things you just don't want to do. Yes, it's ok that you don't have a 28-inch waist. Be more kind to yourself and allow yourself some room to just enjoy life.
