Yes, Santa Is the Ultimate Bear Daddy, but Is He a Fetish?

I think yer boy Hank here is about to come out of the closet as a Santa fetishist. Or kinkster, depending on how you use the terminology. Either way, since I am inclined to find the bears and older guys pretty damn yummy, it's no surprise that around this time of year, images of Santa have me walking around in pretty much a constant state of some kind of arousal. And those new Target ads don't help the situation! Hey, what can I say? If yer gonna shove it in my face all day this season, I might as well have fun with it! Many of us find images of Santa, especially those that are specifically eroticized and sexualized, downright drool-inducing, if not at least amusing and titillating. But is "Santa fetish" an actual fetish, or kink? Or does the image and idea of Santa simply check a lot of our kink list?

Let's get the terminology straight. Academically, a fetish is something that is required to get someone off. It's de riguer if your juices are going to start flowing, if you're going to get that sleigh in the air, so to speak! A kink is a more general term for the sexualization of regular objects or activities that excite you in a sexual way.

After speaking with several sexperts, the folks over at Zipper for the most part conclude that while there are certainly kinky aspects to much of what Santa presents and represents, it's not really a full-out fetish. At least, as far as they could find in speaking with folks and looking around online. But don't tell that to Sofia Sømer, an erotic masseuse based in Toronto:

I have fantasized about being over Santa’s knee, being spanked by him, then being on my knees in front of him, made to do unspeakable things.

In a similar manner, Taylor, a sexologist also from Toronto (geez, what's with the filthy Canooks?) says of his own attraction:

For the most part, though, there's not much research or writing that says this is a full-out fetish. It's something people need to get off, per se. Santa seems more to encapsulate several elements that we enjoy outside of the wintery season: the shape of a full-figured kinda guy; a daddy figure; the black leather of his wide belt and boots; his full beard; and the idea that he's watching us, to reward or to gently scold. Oh, and if you need a harsher grounding, he can always send his buddy Krampus!

If many fetishes and kinks start to formulate in our younger years, often associating things that gave us comfort and fulfillment in some way, then it doesn't help that we were pushed onto Santa's lap in our youth and promised whatever we told this strange man. How could such an event not get stuck in our brains and come out later in life in some weird and wonderful way? Oh, and can we talk about being put on a man's lap? It's just a small step to laying over that lap! Anything to get your package!

Personally, where the whole Santa thing really hits me in the nether regions is how he was often portrayed in old tv specials as a ginger. "Young Santa" was always a cute daddy-to-be with reddish hair, and that was always a turn-on. So it was inevitable that as he ages into the grey fox we often see, he was bound to hit this stage:
