Is Disney Giving Us Our First Queer Prince? Meet Hottie Andrew Burnap

Well, the trailer for Disney's live-action version of Snow White, starring Gal Gadot and Rachel Zegler, dropped and we gays have a lot to say. To mention that this movie is relying heavily on CGI is an understatement. Reactions are very mixed, but sad to say from our end, it looks like a bit of a mess. Disney live-action iterations have been mainly problematic, but they still keep churning them out! While we are drooling over Gal Gadot's villainous looks and we loved Rachel in West Side Story, the dwarves look less real than the characters in Polar Express, and that is saying a lot.

But, while the movie may be a mess, is Disney giving us our first queer prince? Meet hottie Tony Award-winning actor Andrew Burnap. He plays a character written specifically for the movie and if rumors are to be believed, he may be playing Snow White's love interest. Personally, he identifies as fluid, possibly making him our first out queer prince. Yes, he's adorable.

Andrew made a major splash in the theatre scene for his performance in Matthew Lopez's critically acclaimed The Inheritance. The play centers around the lives of gay men in NYC who are dealing with being part of the generation following the aftermath of the AIDS epidemic.

Andrew garnered much attention for his portrayal of Toby Darling and won the Tony Award for his work.

During the show, Andrew came to terms with his own sexuality. He had identified as straight, and said he even earned privilege from identifying as such, but working through the show and his character gave him permission to explore his identity. Check out this clip as he talks about his character:

In an interview with Glamour UK, he said:

It’s been interesting to have people assume that I am that, and that’s been difficult for me because I am in a place in my life where I feel like I’m in a space of expansion and stepping into the full version of myself, and certainly through my own sexuality. I’m sort of falling into the category of curiosity, questioning and trying to understand my full self, and that’s a really vulnerable, scary but also beautiful place to be.

Andrew has talked openly about masculine identity and the norms that are put on males to conform. Now, as sexually fluid, he is being given a bigger platform with a major role in this megafilm. Imagine our first sexually fluid Disney prince? Queer actor Jonathan Bailey is making major headlines for playing a prince in Wicked, and the focus is not on his sexuality but rather on his performance. Is this a sign of changing times? Let's hope!
