While living together can at most times be bliss, there are some things to consider during your first year of gay love under the same roof. Being prepared and having some serious chats beforehand will be key to making this next stage successful. Having an open mind and actively listening will help make these serious convos go well.

Perhaps the biggest fight starter is finances. Gay love can be expensive. With rent or mortgage, groceries, Wifi, new furniture, and even toilet paper needs, splitting expenses can sometimes be tricky. Most couples do not make the same income, so 50/50 splits are not usually the rule of thumb anymore. How are you going to split all the bills? How are you going to save money together for trips and such? Does your partner have a spending addiction? Are you going to open a joint checking account or join credit cards? Does your partner have bad credit? These are things to consider when opening up your heart and your wallet. Best to have a clear understanding of the financial picture before moving in.

Your belongings. Do you have a Star Wars collection? Do you have a massive grandfather clock inherited from your family? Do you have 200 pairs of shoes? Figure out what furniture and belongings each gay cannot live without. Chances are, you'll have to compromise and ditch some of your stuff in order to fit it under one roof. Things are just objects, isn't gay love worth it?

Gay love during the holidays. If you are moving in together, chances are you've already met each other's families. But when the holidays come around, you will need to decide which family you are going to visit. Thanksgiving at your parents, then Christmas with his? How is that all going to work? Sometimes this can get tricky with family pressures. Best to chat about it before that time comes so everyone knows what's up. Getting too tricky? Blow off the families and spend it just together. LOL. Or, invite the two families to your place. Hosting is not just for hookups.

You like going to your boyfriend's house and love how it is always clean? Well, it takes a lot to keep a house clean. This sounds simple, but you should really talk about chores and housework. It's not sexy, but having the convo and knowing just how much a clean freak someone is is very important when moving in. Little things like someone leaving their dirty clothes on the floor or never washing a dish can pile up and cause resentment. It's not the sexiest part of gay love but talking about who is going to do what around the house.

Keep some me time. Gay love doesn't mean you need to spend 24/7 together. Keep your own hobbies active, and take some time out each week for yourself. Hang out with your own friends, keep to your solo gym schedule, just make sure you have some alone time to keep your sanity and to keep the relationship fresh.

Just open your mouth. Above all, the first year of moving in together will go well if you just open your mouth and communicate. Set some time aside each week where both of you can voice your feelings and talk about what is working, and what isn't working, and come up with solutions to address your needs. There are bound to be some bumps in the road, but communicating through them will make it successful.
