Movie News: Henry Cavill, more Hunger Games, & Box Office Blunders!
I'm your Gay News Guy – this is the news, casual, sassy, unfiltered, and a little hungover. Ok here’s this week's movie news as I see it!
This weekend’s box office was a mess! Terrifier 3 challenged the odds by debuting at #1. What?? This is a film that was passed on by a number of studios. The budget was only about $2 million and it raked in $18 million. Not bad for a low-level horror movie! The Wild Robot came in 2nd and Joker 2 came in 3rd with one of the worst drop-offs in film history, down 82% from its opening weekend. The film has been ripped to shreds by critics and audiences. Beetlejuice came in fourth and Lego centric movie Piece by Piece opened at 5th place.
The Beetlejuice sequel has done very well, exceeding expectations and raking it in at the box office. During an interview, Michael Keaton said he would return for another movie. Good things come in threes, right? A trilogy to end the franchise might not be such a bad idea. It just needs a tighter storyline than the sequel.
Even though Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire didn’t have the best run at the theaters, there are plans for more big-screen Ghostbuster movies. Should they just stop while they are somewhat ahead?
We are going to have to wait a lot longer to see stud Henry Cavill in the Highlander reboot. The film has been in development hell, being talked about as far back as 2008. Filming was to begin this January, but director Chad Stahelski has been delayed with his John Wick spinoff, pushing back production on his other projects. With Cavill’s busy schedule, will this reboot movie actually get made?
Speaking of Henry Cavill. He has officially signed on to star in the live-action Voltron movie. Some of you gays are too young to remember the cartoon, but it was cool and we can’t wait to see Cavill as part of this franchise. Let’s hope there are plenty of shirtless scenes.
Freakier Friday, the sequel to the 2003 movie starring original stars Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan, will hit theaters in August of 2025. Apparently, the filming has been a dream environment and the gays will be happy that Chad Michael Murray will also be returning.
The live-action Lilo & Stitch movie also got a release date. It will hit theaters on May 23rd of next year. Is this finally a Disney live-action movie that will work?

Greta Gerwig is leading the highly anticipated Netflix reboot of The Chronicles of Narnia. Rumor has it, she is not happy that the films (she is signed on for at least two movies) won’t be released on the big screen. Seeing how successful family films have been this year, it is surprising Netflix doesn’t want to capitalize on box office dollars.
Life imitates art? Is that how the saying goes? I, Robot movie director Alex Proyas came after Elon Musk because of Musk’s unveiled robot designs. The filmmaker says the robots are a blatant copy of his design. Gurlll….
Even at 80 years old, Danny Trejo is ready to come back to the Machete movie franchise. There’s been talk of Machete Kills Again in Space since 2018. Everyone is just waiting for Robert Rodriguez to give the green light but Trejo said in an interview that he’s still in great shape and is ready for action.
Ridley Scott’s Gladiator II will have a run time of 2 hours and 28 minutes. That’s a long movie! Hasn’t Scott learned from his disasters Napoleon and House of Gucci? Less is more, my dude.
There’s more Hunger Games on the way! The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping will be a sequel to the prequel, lol, if that makes sense. It will follow the storyline of an earlier Haymitch Abernathy (originally played by Woody Harrelson) 24 years before the Jennifer Lawrence Hunger Games story. Who should play a young Woody?
