Movie News: Lady Deadpool, Beetlejuice, Lord of the Rings, and Star Trek!

I’m your Gay News Guy – this is the news, casual, sassy, unfiltered, and a little hungover. Ok here’s this week's MOVIE NEWS as I see it!

Natural disasters are all the rage! The Twisters reboot was a big box office hit, exceeding expectations by more than double, and almost double the original film's opening. Spoiler alert, original cast member Helen Hunt does not make a cameo. But talks about a reboot sequel are already swirling around and we know that studios love money so this makes it very likely.

We know the sexiest and happiest couple in Hollywood is Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds. Hey, if Ryan isn’t going to choose from the gay pool, he could do worse. We love their romance. Well, if the rumors are true and based on Blake’s social media posts, it is very likely that she will make an appearance in Deadpool & Wolverine as Lady Deadpool. We love it!

We gays love a guy in a suit, we also love a hot guy in a suit, we also love a hot guy in a suit while kicking ass. Well, Kingsman 3 is coming although we’ve waited a long time. Filming hasn’t even started and that’s because hottie Taron Egerton has a busy schedule. We likely won’t see the final film in this iteration of Kingsman until 2026.

Is Trading Places 2 happening? For those young gays out there, Trading Places was a 1983 film with Eddie Murphy and Dan Akroyd. Now that Beverly Hills Cop 4 is a hit on Netflix, Akroyd says he’s going to submit his treatment for a Trading Places sequel to Paramount execs.

The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum is in development and the timeline occurs during The Fellowship of the Rings meaning some of the original stars could potentially make a return. In an interview, Elijah Wood said it would be “awesome” to come back as Frodo.

Star Trek nerds, unite! Paramount has two Star Trek movies in the works. They are working on a prequel film that will center around Earth’s first interactions with known Trek alien species and the formation of the Federation. Also, the final Chris Pine-led Trek movie is in development but has had a few stops and starts with a script not yet having been finalized.

While we are excited to see Linsday Lohan back in action in the Freaky Friday sequel, we also are drooling that Chad Michael Murray is also back. Damn, he’s aged well! Zaddy!

Speaking of returning, for us gays who love rom-com movies, Kate Hudson said she’d be open to returning for a How to Lose A Guy in 10 Days sequel if the script was right and if co-star Matthew McConaughey was into it.

The final trailer for Alien: Romulus dropped and it promises to be a return to the horror film feel of the original movie. The Alien franchise has gotten a bit convoluted and philosophical, this movie will make space fun again.

Speaking of trailers, Beetlejuice 2 dropped a new look at the film. We liked the less is more of the previous trailers, this movie peek tells us a bit too much and somehow makes us feel less excited about the reboot. Please, don’t let it suck!

Parody camp films are getting a reboot! We’ve reported about the Naked Gun revival with Liam Neeson. Well, a Scary Movie reboot is getting into the groove, and original star Anna Faris said she’d be open to returning as long as the money was good and co-star Regina Hill also returned. We’d be up for that!

Zack Snyder’s Rebel Moon series has gotten mixed reviews and reception by critics and Netflix watchers both. He is releasing the director’s cut of the films that is said to be bloodier and more sensual. Well, even with the franchise not being a huge hit, he is planning a six-episode podcast called The Seneschal that will be a prequel story to Rebel Moon. Maybe it will have more success as a pod?

Back to the early 2000’s, TV show 24 is getting a movie adaptation. It will be a retelling of the series in a film format, it is not known if original star Kiefer Sutherland will come back as Jack Bauer.

Top Gun and Twister stud Glen Powell will star in Stephen King’s The Running Man remake. This film will steer closer to the novel rather than the original film starring Arnold Schwarzenegger. Hmmm…maybe this is a reboot we actually need.
