Flame Con: World’s Largest Queer Comic Convention

Gay nerds unite! Gay geeks rejoice! We all know how hot gay nerds are, right? Dating one is always a good idea, they'd rather play video games than scroll on Grindr; your boy is safe in his computing chair. Flame Con - the world's largest queer comic and pop culture convention - comes to New York City for its tenth year on August 17-18 at the Sheraton Times Square Hotel. The expo is presented by Geeks OUT, a non-profit that seeks to rally, promote, and empower the queer geek community. They organize events, attend other conventions coordinating queer spaces, they launch advocacy campaigns, and, every year, Flame Con.

Flame Con features a comic, art, and entertainment expo showcasing creators and special guests from all parts of the LGBTQ+ community of comic and pop culture fans. It is a two-day event with panels, cosplay, and performances. The event has gotten so big, that they are adding a third floor to expand the Gaymer Lounge, an area to mix and mingle and immerse yourself in board, card, and video games, and even TTRPGs. This area will be run by NYC Gamers, another non-profit whose mission is to uplift the voices of marginalized gamers.

This year, they are also putting on Fireball: The Official Flame Con After Party on Saturday, August 17th at Hell's Kitchen Industry Bar. This event will feature drag, burlesque, dancing, and more, and will be hosted by Drag Race's Megami.

Nic Gitau, President of Geeks OUT, says:

For years, the constant refrain we’d hear attending other conventions was ‘Wouldn’t it be cool if..? Wouldn’t it be cool if… there was a safe space for LGBTQ+ fans to connect?’ or, ‘Wouldn’t it be cool if… there was a show that proved audiences were hungry for unapologetically queer storytelling?’ Over the last ten years, Flame Con has become a home for queer fans, championed queer stories, and celebrated queer creators as their careers have sparked and exploded. We're grateful for a community that's grown exponentially each year and we're excited to gather the best of LGBTQ+ comics and pop culture once more, in what will be a standout 10th anniversary show.

Will you be joining your gay nerds family this year?
