Fleshbot Gay Breaking News.

The 2024 Tony Award Nominations Are Out!

Hot off the press, this year's Tony nominations are out and the theatre gays are wetting themselves! Early this morning, fellow gay and Tony Award winner Jesse Tyler Ferguson and fellow Tony winner Renée Elise Goldsberry spilled the tea on the noms, voted for by 44 theatre professionals, in 26 categories for the 77th Annual Tony (Antoinette Perry if you want to be fancy) Awards live from the Sofitel New York.

The Tony Awards go back to 1947 when a committee of the American Theatre Wing put it together and named it after Antoinette Perry (aka Tony) who was an actress, director, and producer, and who also co-founded the American Theatre Wing. She had died the previous year, the Awards are in her honor.

This year's show will air live on Sunday, June 16th from Lincoln Center from 8:00-11:00 PM, ET/5:00-8:00 PM, PT on CBS and Paramount+. A preshow will be available on PlutoTV.

Marking 77 years of excellence on Broadway, The Tony Awards, hosted by Ariana DeBose, will air LIVE on Sunday, June 16, 2024 from the David H. Koch Theater at Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts in New York City from 8:00-11:00 PM, ET/5:00-8:00 PM, PT on the CBS Television Network, and streaming live and on-demand on Paramount+. A preshow with exclusive content will be available for free on Pluto TV. This year's show will be hosted once again by the fabulous Ariana DeBose.

Our quick take:

Theatre diva lovers went crazy because this finally marks a nomination for one of our fave powerhouse gals, Leslie Rodriguez Kritzer. Can you imagine Harry Potter getting a Tony? Take that JK Rowling! Stereophonic makes history as the most nominated play in Tony Awards history! The new production of The Wiz didn't even get one nomination, some people are crying foul! Back to the Future, The Notebook, and Lempicka were left out of a clearly anemic Best Musical category. There was very little recognition for productions that made big headlines, including The Great GatsbyGutenberg! The Musical!Monty Python’s Spamalot, and The Who’s Tommy. Ouch!
