Drag Race Star Shangela Accused of Sexual Assault

Sashay...away. Drag Race alum Shangela (aka DJ Pierce) has made a successful career and established herself beyond the reality TV show as an in-demand brand. We first saw her for Drag Race's second season, making a surprise return for the third season, and appeared in the third season of All Stars. She has made a number of acting appearances in shows like X-Files, Bones, and Glee and appeared in the Gaga version of A Star is Born. She became the first drag queen to walk the red carpet at the Academy Awards. She appeared as herself in Max's We're Here and in Dancing with the Stars. Now, in a damning expose, accusations of sexual assault have arisen.

As reported by Rolling Stone (by the way, since when did Rolling Stone become our gay FBI? They broke the story about the cast of Queer Eye as well), five people came forward with allegations that Shangela tried to sexually assault them.

The incidents occurred between 2012 and 2018 and allege that Shangela made sexual advances on them while they were intoxicated. One alleges that she tried to have sex with them even after they said no. The allegations come after a suit was filed against the drag queen last year. The suit, filed by a We're Here producer, included allegations similar to the ones revealed in Rolling Stone. It was dismissed when the two parties met my mediation.

In a letter to Rolling Stone, Shangela denied the allegations and stated these accusations were just riding off the coattails of the lawsuit.

Shangela has blocked recent comments on her Instagram, but people are posting on her past posts regarding the news. Some still support her, some are calling for her to be canceled.

This is so unfair and I’m not going to believe this until there is hard evidence. Some of these gays be doing the most and are opportunist. ✌ we will stand with you Shangie never seen anything but love coming from you, don’t let these people get to you, stay strong and stand in your truth

The victims claim they have been afraid to come forward because of all the anti-drag legislation in process, not wanting to fuel the fire to the conservative side.
