2024 Oscar Nominations: Who Got Left Out

The 96th Academy Award nomination list came out this morning and the media is a buzz! The ceremony, hosted by Jimmy Kimmel, will be presented on Sunday, March 10th, at an earlier time of 4 pm. For the first time ever, a film had to pass two out of four inclusion rules to be able to compete for Best Picture...c'mon diversity!

The films leading the race? No real big surprises: Oppenheimer (13 noms), Poor Things (11 noms), Killers of the Flower Moon (10 noms), and Barbie (8 noms).

Some history made this year courtesy of Killers of the Flower Moon: Lily Gladstone is the first Native American acting nominee. Martin Scorsese has the most nominations of any living director.

Who Got Left Out?

Well, first off, let's say just say we are glad to see Danielle Brooks from The Color Purple, she killed it! That being said, so did her co-star, the lead of the film, Fantasia Barrino - left out. The film was also left out of Best Picture. For Killers of the Flower Moon getting so much attention, the film's lead, our childhood crush, Leonardo DiCaprio was not nominated for Best Actor...the Oscars have some fixation with not nominated him often. A big surprise was that even though Barbie did well with nominations, the film's director Greta Gerwig and film star Margot Robbie did not get a nomination...Ryan Gosling did though. Hmmm...Another big surprise was the icing out of Julianne Moore and Natalie Portman for their roles in May December. They were phenomenal in the movie and should have been included. Also, Past Lives, a Korean/English bilingual film, did not get a nod for Greta Lee, the film's lead. Wonka was also a surprise to not get any nominations at all. AND...on behalf of all the gays...WHERE WAS SALTBURN? Not even Best Picture? Damn, it was soooo good.

Who do you think should have been added to the list?
