I’m your Gay News Guy – this is the news, casual, sassy, unfiltered, and a little tipsy. Ok here’s today’s MOVIE news as I see it!

Mean Girls 2024 kicked ass at the box office, surprising a lot of people. Jason Statham’s The Beekeeper came up second. A musical beating an action film? You go, Glenn Coco! Mean Girls almost made as much as the film’s budget since its debut. With Mean Girls and Wonka at the box office, new sales records made it the highest-grossing weekend since COVID.

Continuing on with the Scream 7 drama, rumors have made the rounds saying they need to bring back Neve Campbell just to save the franchise with the new cast members and director dropping like flies and pulling out or getting fired. Neve stated that she hasn’t been contacted as of yet, but she’s open to returning. Better get out the checkbook, she’s asking for the paycheck she is due before she makes a return!

Will Tommy Wiseau’s Big Shark get the “so bad it’s good” cult status that his first film, The Room, did? The film is making its way around the festivals and limited theatre run, and it’s being panned as so bad it’s just bad, with critics saying Tommy is trying too hard to make a bad film. The film is about three firefighters in New Orleans who have to combat a monster shark. Looks like Tommy watched too many Sharknados.

Four-time Oscar nominee Annette Bening joins the cast of…The Bride of Frankenstein? Yep, Warner Bros. is working on the remake and somehow snagged Bening. The film will take place in NYC in the 1930s and deal with the havoc the Bride causes. Hmmm…I have no clue what to think about this one.

Looks like The Mandalorian is moving from TV to film. Season 4 is not guaranteed as it was announced there will be a big-screen Mandalorian and Baby Yoda project. I love The Mandalorian on TV, not sure if it needs a big movie treatment. Some of the Star Wars spinoffs haven’t done so well.

Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire will still pay homage to the original cast with Janine (Annie Potts) taking over for Igon. I’ve always loved Annie Potts as Janine and think this is adorable. Let’s just hope the film is good, I wasn’t all that impressed with the first reboot. To be honest, I like the female cast of Ghostbusters better. Maybe just because of Chris Hemsworth in tight jeans.

Top Gun 3 is happening and Tom Cruise is returning! I’m surprised it took this long to get going since Top Gun 2 was such a box-office hit. They better hurry up, Tom isn’t getting any younger…although he looks more fit than I did in college.

Biopics are in the works! There is both an Amy Winehouse and a Michael Jackson biopic in the works. The MJ biopic will star his actual nephew. Wonder what part of MJ’s life they will feature. Adding to the biopic news is Selena Gomez as Linda Ronstadt – brilliant casting!

There’s a new Star Trek movie in the works! It’s not a sequel to the Chris Pine movies, it’s a prequel to them. So, it’s a prequel to the prequel, ok, beam me up!

Willem Dafoe blurted out some Beetlejuice 2 secrets. He revealed that he will play a detective in the afterlife who used to be a B-rate actor. Also, Monica Belluci will play Beetlejuice’s wife! Ok, I have to say I’m really excited about this one.
