Hello and welcome to another Drag Queen Spotlight! Here is where I introduce you to a drag artist that you need to know about! This week we’re getting to know the stunning Oxxie Gin-Bloom from Los Angeles! Oxxie is a stunning queen who can perform the house down girl! She has been a part of the Facadee competition at Hamburger Mary’s, and you these Mary’s girls don’t play! I was so excited to do this interview with Oxxie! How did you get your drag name?

When I was in high school, I found out about drag and Drag Race. And my best friend loved drag and she changed her Instagram handle to Moxxie Cotton and because she was my best friend I wanted to copy her but in my own way. I was like well I want it to be a pun but also a cute name so we came up with Oxxie Gin. Oxxie like the drug and gin like the drink and Oxxie Gin because I’ll take your breath away.

How long have you been doing drag?

Almost five glamourous years now.

How would you describe your drag aesthetic?

Hot, sexy, pussy, bendable.

What made you want to start doing drag?

I thought I would look hot and you know what… I was right. No, when I was in high school, I was in the musical theatre department. I always loved being on stage in front of people, it was a thrill. So once I got out of high school, I stopped doing musical theater and went into nursing school. After that, my friend sent me a flyer for an amateur drag competition at a nightclub and I was like fuck it let's see what this little diva can do. And by the end of the 8 weeks, I came out in third place.

Who inspires your drag (celebrities, other queens, etc.)?

Some people who inspire me are actually cartoon characters. Two of my favorites are Jessica Rabbit and Holli Would (if you don’t know who that is look it up). I would also say probably some of the '90s supermodels/celebrities like Naomi Campbell, Pamela Anderson, and Trisha Paytas just to name a few.

Favorite song/artist to lip sync to?

As of right now one of my go-to songs is “PURE/HONEY” by Beyoncé. It is just such a pussy song and I can FEEL my pussy in that for sure. And it’s also helped me kinda find my favorite form of dancing.

Have you ever hooked up in drag?

No, because I’m too expensive for the guys.

What are your hobbies outside of drag?

So I always tell people that drag is my job, but sewing and wig-making are my hobbies. Every outfit I wear or hair I have on my head came from hand dainty little hands.

What’s the craziest thing you’ve witnessed in a dressing room?

During a competition, I’ve seen girls put dirt in other queens’ makeup. That’s probably the wildest which isn’t that crazy but to me is wild because I love my makeup

Borgia Bloom is your drag mother! How did you two become drag family?

So this is a funny story actually. The first time I met her she was judging a competition, and some of the things she said I didn’t necessarily agree with. And as a baby queen does, I talked $hit about it. Then I realized what I said was wrong and I apologized to her. Since then we would chat here and there and she would book me at the BLOOM BLOOM ROOM in Pasadena at The Boulevard. I started this competition in Long Beach Hamburger Mary’s called FACADEE and I would just always go to her for advice and by the end of the competition she was like yes you're my daughter. It was never an official thing so it just kinda happened.

Biggest pet peeve about audiences in nightclubs?

It's probably just when they don't pay attention. Talking during the numbers. Like why go to a drag show if you're not gonna watch it?

Any advice for someone wanting to start doing drag?

DON’T… just joking. Honestly, the only advice I can give is to listen to the advice other queens give you. Especially if they have been in the game for a while. even if you think it won't apply to you just always keep it in mind. Also, wear earrings goddamn it.
