Where Are They Now: Liam Knox Talks Passionate Porn, Fitness, & Muscle

How does a porn star stay at the top of their game and for how long? A great person to ask is muscleman Liam Knox. Now finishing his seventh year in the business (a lifetime for a gay porn star), Liam is still making smoking hot scenes at all the major studios, including Raging Stallion and Titan, and with the industry's top performers including Felix Fox and Devin Franco. Liam and his gorgeous physique are showing no signs of stopping or slowing down, and he joined us for an interview to assure us he's got plenty more to do and to share how he intends to keep it up.

Could you tell us about your journey from starting in the adult industry to becoming a star?

Well, it’s just the tale of a man from the county who was inspired by some of the giants who he grew up watching — hyper-masculine stars like Francois Sagat, Chase Hunter, and Tom Katt. I saw these amazing physiques that inspired me to build myself. These handsome muscled men were on screen in a primal state and I thought, “I want to be like that!" Then when I moved to San Francisco, the opportunity presented itself after a breakup. My friends Dirk Caber and Jesse Jackman introduced me to the Executive Producer and owner of Titan. I filmed my first scene with Titan and was offered a contract as an Exclusive after that.

Could you tell us about your life before and after starting in the industry and becoming famous?

Well, I grew up on a horse farm in East Tennessee and learned how to ride a horse before I could ride a bike. I had my fair share of challenges growing up. I went to college at the University of Tennessee Knoxville. I was a go-go dancer and male entertainer in the local drag shows, and I competed in Male Pageants/Contests and made some amazing friends who were in the industry, like Rob Knox who worked for Hothouse. I always seemed to have friends who were in the industry. Nothing much really changed after. I do tend to keep my personal life separate from my porn life; however, I’ve never really thought of myself as famous. On occasion, I’ll get recognized or someone will speak up to ask, “Aren’t you…?” Moreover, after being in the industry, I’ve viewed it as an opportunity what measure of recognition I have to create a positive influence in our community as a whole.

Could you tell us about your relationship with pornography before becoming a performer? Who were/are some of your favorites?

Porn to me was always a visual representation that said, “You can celebrate your sexuality!" It provided more than a fantasy/outlet. It gave me an education about sex that our society fails to give us. That also led me to a quest to understand why our community has been vilified. It led me to learn more about sex as it ties into our ability to be comfortable expressing ourselves openly and honestly without fear of judgment from others and ourselves.

You have been in the industry for some time now. How has the business changed in all the time you've been performing? Some of the good things and maybe not so good.

Honestly, it seems like only yesterday.  I started in the world of studios and Titan was an AMAZING start, where you were treated well. It showed me what the benchmark for professionalism should be. The industry as a whole is more diverse now and that’s fantastic. However, now with studio and Fans content, it has created an over-saturation that I think is a drawback or negative. I keep my scene releases where they’re not oversaturating your stream, so when I do release or post people notice something new or ask you when I’ll be releasing something new from a backlog of new content.

How have you changed? What has been the secret to your longevity? How have you tried to keep your work fresh and exciting?

Well, I like to think that I’ve evolved. You have to be open-minded to all appetites and supportive. Even if it’s not your kink…nobody should ever kink shame. Nobody should ever laugh at another person for being into something they’re not. I feel like I’ve changed by being more invested in understanding why someone is into something.

I’m not exactly certain what my secret is. But I like to keep it simple and represent who I am and what I like.  So perhaps it’s just being transparent about what turns me on. Representing my enjoyment of the primal element that makes sex appealing and keeps you connected with your scene partner. I invest in my health, physique, and spirit. And if you’re always representing who you are and what your evolution is… that keeps people invested and provides longevity.

What do you try to bring to your performances that is different and gives you a special edge?

I would have to say just being honest about who I am.  You can tell when someone is faking a persona and when the scene is faked.

I’m a homosexual man who is interested in other homosexual, bi, or trans men. I stick to the origin of where our sex drive originates. That root chakra and the animal within. I don’t overcomplicate sex with a lot of dialogue. I’m a growler, groaner, and moaner. And that’s not going to change anytime soon. So perhaps it’s that honesty/transparency that gives me some sort of edge.

What has been your favorite scene/movie so far and why?

Within my repertoire of studio work …my scene with Devin Franco is probably my favorite. We had a great connection and have maintained a great friendship.  And probably my favorite in my Fans content…that’s extremely tough since I only film with someone with whom I have chemistry and attraction. So it’s almost impossible to choose a favorite there. They’re all great men with very charged sexual energy. But by far my favorite studio scene is from Incubus, which Jasun Mark directed.  It’s when Francois Sagat is taken over by himself.  It’s so erotic!

What are some of your thoughts on the ongoing competition between the studio world and the OnlyFans world of the business? Where do you stand on everything? What are some of the pluses and minuses of each?

There was a big shift with Fans sites like JustForFans, TopFanvids, and 4MyFans coming up and providing a platform outside of studios for performers/content creators to capitalize on their own opportunities and ability to generate greater income. No longer are agents and studios the gatekeepers of the industry. Instead, studios have become an opportunity to expand your fan base that you have to create. So the opportunity it has created is good. Sometimes people who are thinking about it will ask my opinion and I’ll say to definitely cultivate both avenues. Rather than compete, they can synergize with one another.

What are some things you've yet to do in the industry, both as a performer and in general, that you still would like to do or achieve?

So you’re asking me what’s my “porn bucket list”?  LOL. Well, I'd still like to work with Kristen Bjorn and Men.com. There’s a younger generation coming up, and I’ve always been a nurturer, so mentoring or being “Daddy” to a younger generation. That's partly why I'm still here. So that’s probably one thing I still feel I need to achieve other than showing that we don’t age out. We can still be virile and viable through an investment in our physical health.

People you would like to work with?

That’s easy. Francois Sagat, Mason Wyler, Bull Barrett, and Mathew Mason.  Just a few names from a very long list of content creators with whom we’ve had an ongoing flirtation.

Types of scenes and acts you would like to perform?

Well, I’ve been a cop, a jock, a former mob member…but I’ve yet to be in a spoof, which would be fun to do. And an on-screen DP I’ve yet to do.

How about outside of the industry? What lies ahead?  Who is Liam outside of the adult industry? Work? Hobbies? Interests? Beliefs?

Outside of the industry, I’m a personal trainer and nutritionist.  I love helping people achieve their health and fitness goals. So furthering my education and professional aptitude is ahead, as well as growing my online training business. The move from San Francisco to LA has shown me that, as much as I enjoy training clients in person, I need to invest in a viable and sustainable business model with online training. In-person consists of very long hours and can take a physical and mental toll on you in the form of burnout. And when you have clients tell you, “You saved my life,"  well, I don’t want to burn out and walk away from something I love.

As far as hobbies...well, I love to cook and travel. If there’s a beach or vista to hike to…then I’m definitely down.  I love fantasy and sci-fi. They captured my imagination and heart when I was a kid. Worlds where people are accepted and allowed to be who they are! What’s not to love about these genres?

I believe in manners. I believe a cultivated and enriched mind is something that we should all try to achieve. I believe that religion is a division and a means of propagating wealth and power. I believe that spirituality and belief in a higher state of being isn’t wrong. Neither is believing in nothing (if you so choose).

I believe that we should all show consideration and respect toward one another.

What is your favorite thing about sex and about sex on film?

My favorite thing about sex is the journey. The physicality and bonding that it can and should involve. For me, sex isn’t about the end result. It’s the process and the celebration of our bodies’ built-in capacity for joy that I love. My favorite thing about sex on film would have to be creating a representation of sex as passionate and primal; sweaty and sensual; as a primal act that keeps us honest about what we desire away from over-cerebral affectations.
