Wayne Brady Comes Out As Pansexual

CELEBS

News on LGBT Celebs, Queer Celebs, and Gay Celebs.

For years, Wayne Brady has been a household name around the world. He made a name for himself starring on the numerous iterations of the iconic improv show Whose Line Is It Anyway?, he's starred on Broadway, and he's currently the host of CBS' long-running reboot of Let's Make a Deal. He's an actor, a singer, a dancer, a host... and now, he can add one more title to his multi-hyphenate: member of the LGBTQ+ community!

In an exclusive interview with People Magazine, Brady came out as Pansexual, or as he put it, "Bisexual with an open mind." But he chose pansexual because it seemed to encompass a more freeing approach to love and sex. "I couldn't say if I was bisexual, because I had to really see what that was, especially because I really have not gotten a chance to act on anything," the star said. "I came to pansexual because — and I know that I'm completely messing up the dictionary meaning — but to me, pan means being able to be attracted to anyone who identifies as gay, straight, bi, transsexual or non-binary."

For Brady's daughter Maile and ex-wife Mandie Taketa, the news was no big deal. "I just said, 'Okay,'" his 20-year-old daughter told People. And for Taketa, it was even more simple. "I just said, 'Great.' As I knew coming out would help him be happier," Taketa said. Their support was evident because following the publishing of his People interview, Brady posted a message to his Instagram. "I've come to see a few truths, one of them being that I want to be free to love whomever I want. This truth makes me Pan and part of the lgbtq+ family," he wrote. "It's scary as hell to say out loud but here it is."

Along with the caption was a wonderfully Queer video featuring him in a flowing wig lip-synching to Celine Dion's, "It's All Coming Back to Me Now" alongside Maile, Taketa, Fordham who were doing choreographed dances and throwing rainbow confetti and dancing with a Pride flag.

Brady coming out also comes right before a new eight-episode reality documentary series is released on Hulu showcasing Brady and his family. You see, Brady and his ex-wife Taketa co-parent daughter Maile with Jason Fordham, Taketa's partner. According to the show's official logline, it will showcase "unexpected points of view and values that most people (including his own family) have a hard time understanding." The timing of Brady's announcement is starting to become a bit clearer.

The support for Brady has been decidedly positive with fans and fellow celebs alike sending their love and support to the star and commenting on his social media. To have such a household name come out as part of the LGBTQ+ community is not a small deal. And Brady specifically has established himself as beloved by all, making fans out of seemingly everyone, so this news brings with it even more of an impact.

Congratulations, Wayne! And welcome to the family.
