Where Are They Now: Jason Tyler Talks Getting Discovered on Manhunt, His Time as a Falcon Studios King, and Why Love & Porn Don’t Mix

PORN GALLERIES

What makes a porn star last, both during their time in the industry and long after? Perhaps it is when we see in their careers a definite arch, an evolution.

That is certainly what we got from Jason Tyler.

With over 30 films from 2001 to the early 2010s, we saw Jason go from a 20-year-old Falcon twink to a Lucas manly man.  Still on top when he left, Jason Tyler leaves behind an impressive list of scenes that are still smoking hot. He joined us for an update on where he is now and how he looks back on his impressive career.

Could you tell us about your journey from joining the industry to becoming a star?

My journey began with Bill Van Bokkelen, who was the director of development at Falcon Studios.  He found me on Manhunt and persistently chased me for a year before I agreed to do a scene for Falcon. Once I agreed, they flew me to San Francisco to shoot my first scene. At the time, John Rutherford was CEO, and it was Falcon’s 30th anniversary. John decided to put me on the cover for the movie and offered me an exclusive contract with Falcon.

You worked at several of the different studios and with a lot of different performers. How do some compare with others?

Back then, Falcon Studios was the “Ford Modeling Agency” of porn. An exclusive contract with Falcon Studios meant something in the porn world. When a Falcon contract ended, all the other studios were eager to hire you and usually offered “top billing” and the highest pay.  Falcon set the standard in the gay adult entertainment industry.

Falcon was always five-star treatment. Travel, accommodations, meals… everything was taken care of. They treated us like kings. They took us to guest appearances where we would autograph our pictures and meet our fans, which I was amazed at how many fans we had. Remember, this was before the internet and before iPhones, so I had no idea that there would be so many guys who were totally obsessed with me or my fellow actors. We went to the AVN awards , the Hookies, and the Cybersocket Awards for public appearances. I was 20 years old at that time and had only seen “red carpets” on the television. I remember asking my new bestie and fellow Falcon exclusive Josh Weston, “What are we supposed to wear to porn awards…?” LoL

Who were some of your favorite fellow performers?

Tag Erikson and I walked onto set, saw each other, and started laughing. We had just hung out the week before at the Westside Club… Haha He and I would cause so much trouble, and have great sex!

Drew Peters was a close friend of mine and we worked well together, so naturally we both requested to be put in scenes with each other. Another fave of mine was Dominic Ryder.  I would do anything he wanted. My best scenes where always with him. In fact, my first bareback movie was a scene with Drew and Dominick. I fucked them and they took turns fucking me. I knew them. I trusted them and let them do anything they wanted to me. Watch the scene in SX’s Dungeon. So hot !!

Still in touch with any? Anybody you you'd worked with?

I stayed connected with Matthew Rush over the years.

Some of your fellow stars like Josh Weston, met unfortunate fates. What do you think it was about the industry that did that to them and how were you able to overcome such hazards?

Josh Weston died with HIV complications.  I don’t think the industry contributed to that, However, there was a point, in my early thirties, where several of the guys I worked with committed suicide. It was terrible and freaked me out. I don’t know what drove them to such a terrible place that they took their own life, but it made me incredibly sad, and it made me realize I had to appreciate my friends and family and always have a purpose and keep moving forward.

What brought on your exit?

After 10 years in the industry, I was like, how many different ways can you keep doing the same thing over and over in films? LoL. I was at a point in my life that I wanted a new direction and I wanted to move away from simply exploiting my body.  I became aware of some basic principles of working in the porn industry, like the impossibility of being in a healthy relationship. No matter what anyone says, trying to have a relationship, a real one, is impossible.  Whether it is subconscious or not, there are these constant blocks in your mind that prevent any real connection or emotional bond with another person.

Not just porn, but any kind of sex work that exploits your body for other’s physical pleasure has serious effects on your thoughts and behaviors. We are “acting” or “pretending” to share emotional and physical love on camera in many different forms of erotica, some vanilla, and some extreme, but all of it is draining and prevents you from being able to share the real thing with others… and I’m talking specifically about love.  Once I truly and fully left the industry, love found its way back into my life and it is beautiful!

At that moment, there was this feeling that what I had lost was back. It was then, that I could reflect and was able to see how empty I had been and how disconnected. It was a turning point in my life, for sure.

How has your life been since leaving the industry? What are you up to today?

I’ve been married for four years now and have two sons. Yeah, I’m a stepmom now…

I have a handbag business with my partner called MICMAT . My partner was also in porn, his porn name was Gabriel Dalessandro. We live in Manhattan near Lincoln Center, and we found a connection that we both were searching for. Because we both have experience in the porn industry, it made our bond stronger and there really isn’t anything we can’t handle together. We found that working together in our business has helped strengthen our relationship and has been sort of therapy for us.

Do you miss the industry at all? What aspects?

I loved the things that came with it, like travel and all the things you do off-set with friends and fans, but the actual industry, no, I don’t miss it at all.
