Where Are They Now: Chris Green Talks Going from Crew Member to Star, The Brotherhood of ’90s Porn Stars, & His Life After

Believe it or not, the Gay Porn community was not always the global sensation it is today. It used to be much smaller. Many of the models were actually pulled from working behind the scenes. One such model who began bts and became a Grabby-winning star was Chris Green. Before cashing in on that chiseled jaw and toned bod, Chris had been a seasoned crew member working in photography and music behind the scenes. Cybersocket caught up with Chris joined us to share memories of his time behind and in front of the camera.

Could you share with us your journey to first joining the industry and then becoming a star?
I started my journey into porn by meeting Chi Chi LaRue. She asked me if I would work with her crew as a production assistant when she was starting on the Mustang series for Falcon. I worked on those for three or four years. We started a band together called “The Johnny Depp Clones,” which also featured Karen Dior and Gender, who were also directing porn at the time. I worked on the music for a lot of those movies and met Sharon Cain. We wrote a lot of soundtracks together. The song “In the Key of Sex” was a big one. Randy Mix lip-synced to my vocals. I started to do small parts in movies, like when there was some needed dialogue that the actors couldn't do or they needed extras. I was already there on set. Then we started Hardbody Video. It was like the Entertainment Tonight of porn. I was an on-camera personality (the John Tesh of porn) and I became so recognizable that I was offered to do a movie for a lot of money and I could pick my costars. I couldn't say no.

You became a performer who continued to work behind the scenes. Could you take us through that process?
After I started performing, I thought about how many guys would be watching this and felt a pressure that I hadn’t before. Bruce Cam was the videographer for my videos and I always loved working with him. He later started Titan videos. I also started working out with with this guy who showed up on set and turned out of be Wes Danielles. He lived in the same building as Danny Summers. Through Sharon Cain I met Matt Gunther, Joey Stefano, Alex Stone, Damien, etc. I blew everyone on that set. I guess that’s why I won best oral scene that year...

The '90s is now widely seen as The Golden Age for Gay Porn. Do you agree? What made that period so special?
I know it’s called The Golden Age. I just think of it as a very innocent time. I used to not really bother with adult film stars. Then I met a few and really started to see how I had judged them, and we really felt the same way about a lot of things. Back then, nobody wanted to date porn stars. They all wanted to be seen and hang out, just not date. I never understood that. We looked out for each other and made sure that we weren't being messed with. There was a brotherhood.

What was your favorite scene and why? 
One of my favorite scenes is the alley way scene in Courting Libido, where I end up with the guy washing my car. That was my car and it looked beautiful in the video…LoL.

Who were some of your favorite fellow performers and why? Still in touch with any? 
I was lucky to get dating advice from Joey Stefano. He hooked me up with Jack Dillion, who I had the biggest crush on. I later dated Rod Phillips. Our motorcycle rides in Malibu were some of the most romantic moments of my life. The funny thing about this business is I have made so many friends that I am still in touch with. I still work out with Wes Daniels years later; Eric York became Pete Finland; Bud Hole, I see almost every day; Steve Canon and Danny Summers; I was really good friends with Billy Herrington (RIP), Bruno, Tom Chase, Matthew Rush. We’re a family! There’s also all the producers that I have hung out with and grown to love: Chi Chi, John Rutherford, Chuck Holmes, Steven Scarborough, Bruce Cam, Jim Steel, Jerry Douglas, all the Catilina people.

How have you been since leaving? What are you up to now?
I’m a photographer! After I stopped performing, I figured I could still be creative with a camera. I had already learned how to set up shoots, deal with talent, and shoot on the fly. When something isn't working, I can change the idea and keep shooting until I come up with something. You can be the most technical photographer, but you can’t learn the skills I learned from years on a set. I have also done some solo musical projects.

Do you follow the industry today? Who are some of today's performers who impress you?
I don’t really follow new porn. I am stuck watching old Colt movies…LoL.

Would you consider a comeback? 
You know, if Chi Chi asked me to do a walk on that made sense, I probably would and I’d be obsessed with where the lighting was...LoL.
