Most folks who know about photographer Tom Bianchi are familiar with his sexy advertising work and glossy coffee table books: heck, he's shot nearly every gay man with a six-pack between here and the Marianas Trench. But back in the 70s when Tom was just a fledgling shutterbug, he managed to capture the decadent heights (and subsequent decline) of the Fire Island scene. Just looking at the Polarioids reprinted alongside this Out magazine interview to celebrate his show "Once on this Island" at Palm Springs' Exposure Gallery is enough to make us a little wistful and melancholy on this otherwise beautiful day. Which is way more than we can say of the musical of the same name. (out.com + exposurereps.com)
