Pascal D'Ameyal's male portraits focus on guys who build their muscles at work or in the battlefield rather than at the gym. It's like a blue-collar worker fetish, but only if you consider "half-naked Roman gladiator" working class.
And in fact, we would argue that a Roman gladiator or a barbarian warlord to sit in the same class as your buff firefighter or motorcycle gang member. All of them evoke images of strong men who work up a sweat for a living. The characters in these photographs would take one look at the pretty-boy models we spend all our time fawning over and run them through with a spear. Or maybe throw a snake at them… We don't know what the whole snake thing it about.
