Andrew Garfield On Gay Sex: “I’m Open To Any Impulses That May Arise”

It's 2018, y'all. Being sexually fluid seems to be on trend this year and Andrew Garfield has kinda... sorta... possibly jumped on the bandwagon. 

I a recent interview with OUT, Andrew opened up about his thoughts regarding sex - that of the gay kind in particular. He told the interviewer, "I have an openness to any impulses that may arise." I can think of a few things that could arise between Gorgeous Garfield and myself, that's for sure. 

Andrew is currently starring in Angels In America, a two-part, seven-hour-long play that revolves around the AIDS epidemic and one man's journey through it all. Playing the lead character, Prior Walter, has led Andrew to reflect on his political, spiritual, and sexual views - and of course we're here to lend an ear. 

"Up until this point, I’ve only been sexually attracted to women," Garfield said. "My stance toward life, though, is that I always try to surrender to the mystery of not being in charge. I think most people — we’re intrinsically trying to control our experience here, and manage it, and put walls around what we are and who we are. I want to know as much of the garden as possible before I pass — I have an openness to any impulses that may arise within me at any time."

He goes on to reveal it took a lot of soul-searching for him to accept himself in the role of Prior Walter.

"But, if I were to identify, I would identify as heterosexual, and being someone who identifies that way, and who’s taking on this seminal role, my scariest thought was, 'Am I allowed to do this?'"

Last summer, Andrew received some criticism for claiming to be a gay man "just without the physical act." In a Q&A at the National Theatre, he revealed his obsession with RuPaul's Drag Race. "[Watching Drag Race] is my life outside of this play. I am a gay man right now just without the physical act – that’s all."

When talking with OUT, he took a moment to clarify his statement. "I think part of what I was trying to say was about inclusion, and about that openness to my impulses," he said.

I definitely commend his willingness to open up and consider being more free with his sexuality - whether physically or otherwise. I am also open to anything happening that involves Andrew Garfield... perhaps naked.
