Gay Men Get Bare to Address Body Image Issues

Through the Bare series of his Tryst Pic project, artist Adam Moco seeks to lay bare (literally) the multifaceted relationship that gay men can have with their bodies. Subverting the storied shaming inherent to some hook up apps, Moco utilizes Scruff, Grindr, and the like to connect with models, and share a message of acceptance and self-worth. 

Considering that body image issues are so prevalent with gay men, at least according to this and a number of other photo series, it's interesting that the straight male community is still at such a transitional phase. When Aerie started promoting inclusivity with its female models and stopped photoshopping them, they were lauded. When it looked like the company was taking the same approach with men (remember that?) it ended up being an April Fools joke, literally.

Such a side note moment: I have a theory that body shaming tends to target people with internal sex organs, including horny gay buttholes, which is why a light has yet to be shined on it in any meaningful way with the straight male community. JUST A THOUGHT. Thankfully it is being addressed in the gay realm, leading, of course, to these hot hairy pics. 

Bare Series  

With the black and white format, bearded boys straight out of looking Looking, and poses that convey ALL the emotions, the elements at play here here evoke similar photo series we've seen from other contemporary gay photographers. What helps elevate Adam Moco's work is the utilization of the models' living spaces as backdrops, and what really sets this series apart is the compelling web format. The images on his website are accompanied by audio clips from the models, adding a sense of depth. Not for nothing, the site also features thoughtful navigation.

A reoccurring theme of current gay-focused photos is hurtful body conformity standards, which is great since it affects everyone on some level. What's even better is that today's new black and white photos are all about the dick! Moco happens to have a gift for capturing the thick uncut cock, which will always be gallery-worthy in my book.
