We all know what great actors soccer players are, what with all the flopping and the crying and the whole lot of it. It appears that Lee Mansell, a player for the Bristol Rovers, took things a step further by giving an opponent a quick peck on the lips when he came in to intimidate him.
Instinct Magazine (link below) brought us what will likely be the final soccer story of 2014, a year that was rife with soccer stories, but the sport is clearly going out on a high note.
Bristol Rovers soccer player Lee Mansell landed himself a yellow card during a matchup on Dec. 19 after he kissed opposing Gateshead player J.J. O'Donnell on the lips during a nose-to-nose confrontation.
Speaking about the incident on Monday (December 22), the 32-year-old says he made the gesture to avoid “doing something silly” after the pair clashed.
“We either clash heads and he goes down or I end up doing something silly”, he said. “I did it to defuse the situation. It’s the first time I’ve been booked for kissing someone.”
He continued: “I got in the car to go home and saw Twitter had lit up and my missus said, ‘What the hell were you thinking?’
“But we had a laugh and a joke about it with the lads afterwards. It’s another thing to add to the list of daft things I’ve done on the football pitch.”
